You know how things you’re interested in seem to come up when you’re on the internet? Well, I was searching the internet and this link to Sabon popped up.
In our classes, we’ll show you all the steps for melt and pour soap making, along with designing your own soaps to take home! By choosing shape, color, scent and additives, you will be able to leave the class with your own artisanal, handmade soaps! We offer two packages, and two store locations to choose from. All prices include the soap making experience and your personal soap creations. Enjoy a fun activity and take home something that is truly unique!
I knew where this Sabon was located. It’s about 20 blocks south of where I’ve taught cold process soap making classes. Once, when I was feeling ambitious, I walked down Amsterdam to get to Penn Station and had walked past the store.
I love all things soap and soapy, and decided to sign myself up. At the very least, maybe I’d learn some new techniques for my elementary Bath Bonanza classes. So, Monday night I hopped on the train and went into the city.
My class started at 5pm. When I got to the shop though, they had no record of me signing up. Turns out, this class is new and they were experiencing some glitches in their system. Luckily, they were able to accommodate me.
The instructors name was Olga. Olga started working for Sabon a few weeks ago and loved her job. I watched as she cut up soap and melted it in a double boiler. As the soap melted, she showed me the scents, colors and botanicals I could choose. There were plenty of everything to choose from. We made 6 layered soaps.
I was disappointed this was more of a “make your own soap” than an actual class in learning how to make soap. But I loved working in their soap lab (which is in their front window, so everyone walking by can peek in) and talking with Olga.
I’m grateful I took the class. I love going into the city (probably because I only go in for fun things) and I love making soap. Monday night was a win on both fronts.
What are you grateful for this week?
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela
