I think that this exact week every year I’m grateful for the same thing. Working a school calendar. I love summer. My day job is in a school system and I’m off for the summer. There is no way I’d be able to work 52 weeks a year and run Alegna Soap® the way I want to. I use the summer to catch up with my bookkeeping and do my yearly planning. In the summer I give my soap studio a really thorough cleaning. I can take a walk every morning and not have to rush to get to work. I take a few more yoga classes than I can during the school year. I can actually cook and plan meals instead of throwing something on the table.
During the school year I usually focus on short term goals for myself and my company. Make this soap, it’s running low. Organize the after-school skincare class. Get my studio set up to do a soap making class. I’m able to keep on top of things, but I have no time for anything else.
The summer is for long term ones goals. I try to give every summer a name or theme. One summer was the summer of social media. I spent most of my time figuring out how to use it. Another was the summer of learning QuickBooks (note- that was not a fun summer). This summer I need to go over my costs. I haven’t raised my prices in 5 years and I know I have to soon. I also want to cut out some soaps that aren’t selling as well as the others. I’ve been throwing things away that I don’t use in my house and clothes I no longer wear. I’m starting to think that less is more, I find it easier to work and think with clear space around me. I want to do the same in the studio.
I’m not quite sure how to name this summer, any ideas? Maybe the summer of getting down to business, what do you think?
What are you grateful for this week?
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela

Today I put in the recycling bin lots of plastic tops and containers that do not match. I also went through my pots and pans and got rid of those that are old and that I no longer use. It was very freeing. I do not like clutter at all and am good at getting rid of or recycling items I no longer need or use.
My summer of “keeping it simple”.

Emy I love that! I’ve brought tons of clothes and kitchen items to the thrift shop where my mom volunteers. I tell myself it’s wrong to keep something I’m not using when there may be someone else who needs it.

I can relate to how you try to catch up on things in the summer. I work as a kindergarten teacher and by the time summer break comes, I am dragging and in desperate need of a break. I usually use the summer to do small projects and workout or just feel like a normal person.

Yes! Isn’t having the summer off wonderful! When I worked as a Med Tech I had to work nights and weekends. My current job has spoiled me.
Sharon McLaughlin Weber says
Wow, I hope you enjoy the summer. I am sure you will get a lot accomplished
Angela Carillo says
I am hoping to Sharon. Hope you enjoy your summer as well.

It’s amazing what a little decluttering can do for your mind and body.
Angela Carillo says
Absolutely Donna. When my space is clear, my mind does too.

That’s a great idea to have a theme for summer for your goals. I also work in public education and it’s wonderful to have the summer off to refresh and focus on my small soaping hobby/business. Hope you are having a relaxing and productive summer!

This job has truly spoiled me Debra. Enjoy your summer too!
