The Laney Line

When I started Alegna Soap®, my daughter Elaine and I collaborated on the Laney Line. She likes color in her soaps, so I made four different soap bars for her, and she named them all. She chose the name Skylar for this soap because she said it looked like the sky in June.

I stopped making them a few years ago, Elaine lives in another state with her husband and son, and I no longer felt a connection to them. A few months ago I had an insight. What if the Laney Line grew up like Elaine did? Make the scent blends a little more complex and the color combination more sophisticated? Add some glitter because, why not?

Skylar

On a perfect June day, Skylar heads out into the sunlit garden beyond her slate terrace, taking in the scents of the colorful flowers blooming in the warmth of the afternoon.  Surrounded by the sweet smell coming from tea roses climbing on the trellis, their pale pink color blending with bright red geraniums in the flower bed below, she sits on the soft green grass and closes her eyes to bask in the sun.  The balminess of the day and the natural aromas all around refresh her senses.  A whiff of lavender from the herb garden by the kitchen says, “Relax for awhile!”  And so she does. Lying back on the carpet of green grass, she gazes at the deep blue of the sky above her, watching the wispy clouds form into shapes both familiar and abstract.  Both calming and mesmerizing, the clouds seem to speak to her with their symbolism, and she could stay there all afternoon. The sunlight glistening in her eyes reminds her of glitter sprinkling its magic down on her. The breeze blowing through the umbrella-like branches above her whisper their secrets on this summer day.

This experience is captured in the form of Skylar, a hand-crafted soap the color of the sky with swirls of white cloudlike shapes, combining the scents of patchouli, geranium rose, and lavender, sprinkled lightly on top with silver glitter. Enjoy your own summer day in the garden!
