The Laney Line
When I started Alegna Soap®, my daughter Elaine and I collaborated on the Laney Line. She likes color in her soaps, so I made four different soap bars for her, and she named them all. She chose the name Gwen for this soap because she said it was the most feminine name she could think of, and this soap was pink and sweet smelling.
I stopped making them a few years ago, Elaine lives in another state with her husband and son, and I no longer felt a connection to them. A few months ago I had an insight. What if the Laney Line grew up like Elaine did? Make the scent blends a little more complex and the color combination more sophisticated? Add some glitter because, why not?
Gwen
Her black patent leather high heels perfectly accented the pale pink and charcoal colored dress and pink saucer-shaped hat Gwen was wearing as she headed down the long steps of her Upper East Side brownstone to hail a cab. Though it was 60 years later, she was the picture of 1950s femininity on her way to Columbia’s music department for a jazz performance featuring her best friend—well boyfriend, maybe—and his classmates who had formed jazz trio. Her own sense of style came from her time at F.I.T. and current job in the garment district. The soft pastels of mid-century modern décor with splashes of black and white filled her apartment, while vintage ‘50s outfits filled her closet. Chanel suits, Jacquie Kennedy pink pillbox hats, bright lipsticks, white pearls and black patent leather purses and pumps made her swoon. That femininity is what caught her jazzman’s eye. A pair of throwbacks to the last century, they were just right together, and his music—Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Helen Merrill—it was the background music to their lives. The cab pulled up, Gwen slid herself onto the seat, lady-like and with style, and was soon heading across town and across the decades to enjoy the music of her favorite time in history.
Pink, charcoal and black, with the shine of black glitter is the look of Gwen in Alegna’s Laney Line soaps. Subtle scents of patchouli, ylang ylang and lavender match the soft subtle pink hue. Gwen is bringing classy style back.
So what do you think of grown up Gwen?
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela
