Ten years ago I started a program at the elementary schools I worked in called Bath Bonanza. Five years ago I realized it would make a great workbook for other makers. Because it took me so long to write, I lovingly started calling it The Damn Book.
How Bath Bonanza started
In 2017, I was asked to give a presentation at the Handmade Conference in Ohio. I was there to speak about making lotions, and I had a table where I had single oil lotions for the attendees to try. As people were trying out the different lotions, we chatted. Since a lot of my Facebook and Instagram posts have pictures of the after school Bath Bonanza classes, Girl Scout workshops and parties I do, I was getting quite a few questions about them. What do you do with the students? How do you run the class? How did I get my name out there? On my flight home, I had the idea to put everything down in a workbook, my notes, worksheets, everything.
Why it took so long to write
I have one word. Life. No excuses, just normal everyday tings we all go through. Bath Bonanza sat on my back burner for a while, until I decided to speak on the topic at the HSCG conference in 2022. I needed a deadline so I gave myself one. Worked like a charm.
Conference
The conference itself was fun, and I’m so glad I spoke even though I was nervous. My fellow soap makers were interested in hearing about what I do in the children’s classes and some even bought the book. People were receptive of my ideas and gaining the respect of colleagues and soap maker friends warmed my heart.
I’m grateful The Damn Book is finished. Now, onto another challenge.
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela
