There’s a lot of prepping that goes into each batch of soap I make. Watch me as I take you step by step into a batch of soap.
One of the first things I do is to line my mold. My dad made these for me. It would be much easier to use silicon molds, but I won’t. I love that I still use wood molds he made for me.
It’s easy to do once you get the hang of it. Kind of like you’re wrapping the inside of a box.
Then, I need to put on my gloves and face shield and weigh out my lye.
Carefully, pour the lye into the ice water. I use ice water to bring down the temperature of the lye. When you pour the lye into the water, it heats up to almost 200 degrees F.
Now, I mix the lye to dissolve it. Once it’s mixed, I’ll put it aside.
Prepping the essential oil blend for my soap. For me, this is the fun part. This one is my lavender. It’s starting to smell really good in here! This soap is my favorite, Lavender Lemongrass.
Here’s the lemongrass.
Once my base oils are measured out, I need to melt the ones that are solid (Coconut oil, Palm oil and Shea Butter) This takes watching. I don’t want it to completely melt because then the oils will be too hot.
I do one last look around and grab the calendula that goes on top of my soap. Everything needs to be nearby once I get started.
Stay tuned! I’ll be making the soap in the next post.
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela
