I need to be more efficient with my time. Who doesn’t? I decided to buy an old fashioned timer, the kind my mom had in the kitchen when I was growing up. The timer on my phone can be easily set, but I don’t always have my cell phone on when I’m working, I find it can be a distraction. And I’m trying to be more efficient, remember?
The timer now sits right next to my computer. When I sit to do computer work for Alegna Soap®, I can easily get sucked into my email or some social media outlet. Of course, it doesn’t start out that way. It starts with me posting something to my Facebook page. And while I’m there, let me see what my friends are doing, and oh this is such a cute video. Insidiously, it moves on to reading trash articles, political posts and a general bad feeling that I can’t place. Somewhere along the lines of me comparing my inside to everyone else’s outside. And by the time I realize it, an hour has passed and I’ve got nothing accomplished.
So now I set the timer for 20 minutes, do what I need to do, and see if I can get off before it rings. It’s a game to me, and it’s been a game changer. I feel better and I get more done.
I have strong, positive memories of that timer. It makes a loud, ugly sound, but when it rang it meant the brownies or cinnamon buns were done. Now, when it rings, it means I’m done with the task and can move on to something different. Like maybe a cup of tea.
What tips do you have for being more efficient? Can you share your tools?

Angela

If you find an ugly one, you can always dress up with rhinestones and glitter. 🙂
