The HSCG soap conference 2026 was supposed to be in April. I had plans to go. It was a short drive from my home on Long Island to Connecticut, and I had my conference ticket bought and my hotel room booked.
About a week ago, I received an email.
The HSCG Annual Conference has been held almost every year for the last 28 years. As a non-profit trade association representing the handcrafted soap, cosmetic and candle industry, the Annual Conference has been our way to bring like-minded people together for an immersive networking and learning experience. The event has evolved and grown over the years, but it has remained a very inviting and nurturing environment for makers and entrepreneurs. The HSCG has always strived to keep the conference affordable without sacrificing the quality that participants have come to expect.
Right now, small businesses are struggling under the chaos and uncertainty of the current economic climate. Never before have we heard from so many companies about their ongoing challenges. We are always observant and make adjustments when needed to further benefit our members. We’re aware of the hardships many are facing, and we are aligning our focus accordingly.
Therefore, because of factors outside of the association’s and the industry’s control, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Annual Conference, which was set to take place in Mystic, CT, on April 13-16, 2026 at Mohegan Sun Resort.
We share your disappointment, and we are confident that the HSCG will be able to resume the Annual Conference in the near future, at a time that will be most beneficial to attendees and vendors. We deeply value the time spent in-person with makers at our events, and when the time is right, we’ll be back together, celebrating our industry as only makers can.
I understand the decision, and it still makes me sad.
Reasons why I love the Soap Conference-

I get to see my soap maker friends from around the country. I was especially looking forward to seeing Charlene Simon of Bathhouse Soapery. Some friends and I went to Arkansas to visit her shop last year. It would have been fun to reconnect in Connecticut.

Seeing the vendors. It’s nice to put a face to a name. I order my base oils from Jedwards, they have great oils and great customer service.

I’m a homebody, but is is nice to get away. Brian (Shipping Dude) usually does a house project while I’m gone. On one trip, I came home to a newly painted bedroom!

Sometimes, I speak on a topic although I wasn’t speaking at this conference. Last year I did a talk on Hosting Workshops for Adults and Children
That’s pretty much it. I have my fingers crossed it’s back on in 2027.
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela
