Get back up
There were about 20 of us on the beach in Aruba. I was there with IBN for a business mastermind workshop, and yes, some fun too. We were on the beach finishing up a Nia workout with Maria, and someone had the idea to get a shot of all of us jumping in the air. You know the kind I’m talking about, everyone’s feet in the air, smiling, hands up? It would make a great picture and so yeah, let’s do this!
Except I fell. Ungracefully, I landed in the sand on my ass. I’ve never been too coordinated (thanks Mom!) and that fact that the sand was not a flat surface didn’t help. My nineteen agile friends quickly surrounded me to see if I was ok. Yup, I was fine, embarrassed but not bruised. Someone reached out a hand and helped me back up. We retook the shot and I made some adjustments. (I didn’t try to jump so high, focused on the jump and not the camera) and the shot came out perfect.
But I like this shot better. Me on the sand, laughing. I tried and failed, didn’t take it too seriously and accepted help from someone. And I got back up.
That’s my point. We’ve all failed, fallen and made mistakes at one time of another, and will do it again. The fail/fall/mistake is irrelevant, the “get back up” is the lesson. In fact, I want to fail, fall and make many mistakes because that’s the only way to move forward and grow. I’ll learn what didn’t work, make changes and try again.
I don’t have that perfect picture from that day. Don’t want it, I have the real picture. The picture that reminds me to get back up. Every time.
Yours in Gratitude,
Angela
