kindness of strangers

The morning after Brian’s incident, I experienced the kindness of strangers. I headed over to Dunkin Donuts, I wanted to pick up munchkins for the Neuro ICU nurses on my way to see him.  It was raining and I wanted to get to the hospital. Parking by Dunkin Donuts was difficult (coffee + early in the morning = a parking lot jam).  I finally found a spot, got out of my car and ran to the door.  The place was packed.

As I went to walk in, a gentleman my son’s age opened the door for me. Saying thank you, I walked in and waited for him to enter. He had been at the door first and I didn’t want to jump the line. He motioned to me to get on line and I said, no you were here first.  Smiling, he told me he wasn’t in a hurry.  I thanked him, and told him I was on my way to see my husband in the hospital and had stopped to get something for the staff. We chatted a few minutes and he wished me good luck. When it was my turn at the counter, I placed my order and went to get out my charge card. Before I could, he had his phone out and paid for my munchkins.

His name was Steve and he said he hoped my day got better. Because of his kindness, it did.

Can you help me pay Steve’s kindness forward? Will you do something kind for someone else this week? Make someone’s day, and tell me what you did in the comments below.

Yours in Gratitude,

Angela
