Soap Making Class
Last Friday night I taught a soap making class in my studio at home. I enjoy teaching and I try to my soap making class a fun and educational experience.

Michelle is weighing the lye into my lye container. If you look closely, you can see the lye container is from Ralph Italian Ice. You don’t need a lot of money to purchase soap making supplies. I found most of mine at thrift shops (Pyrex measuring cups, spatulas, Tupperware pitchers) and garage sales (I found my favorite pot at a garage sale for $2.00. It’s a Farberware lobster pot and was an incredible find!)
I like to get started making soap as soon as possible, so we pretty much start the first batch after going over safety instructions. We get on gloves and goggles and start soaping! Jasmine is stirring the lye water here.
My students are slowly pouring the lye water into the base oils.
Michelle is mixing the lye water and oils. Once we reach trace, we add the essential oils.

I like to let my students decorate their soaps while I answer their questions and we talk. We go over the process and make a second batch of soap. My students leave with soaps from each batch, recipes and handouts so they are able to make soap confidently at home.
I’m grateful my husband encourages me to open our home to my students. He know how much I love soap making and sharing what I know. I’m grateful I have students who are enthusiastic soap makers. What are you grateful for this week?
