The Christmas Box
I’ve never been the “Happy Holidays” type of person. I’ll ask you what you celebrate and wish you a happy whatever-that-is. Don’t you think that’s nicer?? If you don’t celebrate anything, I’ll wish you a peaceful winter.
This isn’t my first Christmas without my mom. She died in 2020 on Christmas Eve. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we had hospice coming to her house and my sisters and I were there 24/7. Truth is, I don’t remember anything about that Christmas. We were in the middle of COVID, and the vaccine hadn’t been approved yet. There was no wake, just a small mass and funeral. The whole thing is a blur.
I do remember her knowing she would be gone soon. She was upset and didn’t want to “ruin” Christmas for us. I promised her that we’d be joyful and remember her and my dad.
I want to honor my parents with lots of Christmas traditions. Family and food. Church and Santa. And Christmas smells. And while it may not be politically correct to make a gift set for only one holiday, indulge me.
I want to introduce you to the Alegna Soap Christmas Box. Click on the name of the soap and you can watch me make it on a Facebook Live. (When I was making Jingle Bells, my stick blender fell apart. It’s kinda funny)
Silent Night– Juniper Berry and Bergamot, set in the glittery night sky. “Silent Night, Holy Night. All is Calm, All is Bright”
O Christmas Tree– Fir Needle, Cypress and Cedarwood. A swirl of forest greens. “O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, How lovely are thy branches”
White Christmas– Peppermint and Eucalyptus, ice cold. A bright white so strong it sparkles. “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”
Jingle Bells– Frankincense, Lavender and Grapefruit, bright and shiny like the bells. A shimmery golden base with a red glitter swirl. “Jingle Bell, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the Way”
