My soap visor
In a former lifetime as a Medical Technologist, I used an Op-d-Op® face shield (or what I now call my soap visor) to protect myself from body fluids.
At first, I wore goggles to protect my eyes. Since working in a laboratory means working with a lot of different chemicals and body fluids, we “goggle and glove up”. The thing is, I loved to sing while I worked, so my mouth was always open. As a joke, someone bought me an Op-De-Op visor so my mouth would be protected. Can I say best gag gift ever? The visor never fogged up like the goggles did. When you can’t see what you’re doing, how safe can you be? It was incredibly light weight and easy to wear too. The goggles were tight around my head and left marks around my face when I took them off.
I promptly ditched my goggles and started a love affair with my visor. (I secretly think my co-workers loved it too, my singing was slightly softer since my mouth was covered.)
When I started my new career as a soap maker, I knew I wanted a visor to protect my eyes from lye splashes. It’s easy to slip on (even wearing glasses) and allows me to work comfortably, with no foggy goggles. My glasses don’t fog up and I can see what I’m doing. Can I say that again? My glasses don’t fog up! It’s so comfortable I forget I have it on. The visor is easy to clean. I use soap and water to wash it or if I’m in a hurry, I spray it with Windex and wipe with a paper towel. It doesn’t get any easier than this.
I love my soap visor and I think you will too. And yes, I still sing while I work. Only now I’m singing and making soap.
