Brian’s balm was made for my husband Brian’s problem skin. In addition to using sunflower oil, cocoa butter and shea butter, I’ve added some specialty oils. Argan oil (a very dry oil. Your skin absorbs this oil quickly and it doesn’t leave an oily residue), avocado oil (is thought to have a high penetration rate and enter the dermis layer of the skin.), and jojoba oil (a liquid plant wax that is most similar to our skins own sebum. It absorbs nicely into the skin and can be used by all skin types). For Brian’s Balm I wanted some quick absorbing, deep penetrating oils, in addition to oils that leave a layer of protection on his skin.
While I’m watching Angela whip up a special batch of skin products for me, I can’t help but think how Brian’s Line got started.
Sometimes when I’m helping out Angela at an event, a customer will ask which of her soaps I use on my skin. I tell them about the special products she makes for my problem skin. My skin has always been red and dry. A few years ago, I was hit with rosacea, psoriasis and eczema. Angela wanted to treat it as I was having issues with off the shelf products. So this meat and potatoes guy learned how to use sugar scrubs, balms and super fat soaps. At first, I resisted, I mean sugar scrubs? facial balm? Seriously? But guess what? It did wonders for my skin. These products have a few special oils in them my skin really likes. Angela told me what they are, but I don’t remember the names, all I care about is I have smoother facial skin and the rosacea is noticeably better. She also told me my problem skin is also due to what I eat, genetics and stress, so my skin probably will never be 100% perfect. But hey, I’ll take 90% better any day!
So a few of Angela’s customers started asking if they could buy the soap, scrub and balm she made for me. Then more asked, and even more. Now Angela has developed a line of products called Brian’s Line consisting of my soap, sugar scrub and balm, all unscented. I use the soap and scrub in the shower. The balm is easy for me to carry and I have it at my desk at work, a reminder for me to use it during the day. So when people ask me what I like about it, my answer is “it works”, and she named it after me!
Brian’s Balm is unscented, just the way he likes it.
